In 2010, United Way of Greater Kansas City is providing financial support to 310 programs in the following Community Impact areas:
Successful Children, Youth and Families
Ensuring children and youth are prepared for school, achieve academic success and are ready for a productive future.
Financial Stability
Providing the education, life skills, employment and community resources to help people increase their income and save for financial security.Healthy People, Healthy Communities
Promoting healthy lifestyles and ensuring that access to equitable, affordable quality health care is available to all.Safety Net
Ensuring people facing poverty, crisis or disaster access timely assistance to address life-sustaining basic needs, such as food, utilities, clothing and shelter.
UWGKC Fundraising and Administrative Budget (12.5%)
Utilization of thousands of volunteers results in minimizing staffing costs related to fundraising and marketing, keeping overhead much lower than the national average for charities.
This includes dues of 1% to United Way Worldwide, a national organization that functions much like a trade association, providing suppor to local United Ways. While UWGKC is locally governed, organized and operated, as a member of United Way Worldwide, we receive access to national advertising, research, staff training and other services.

Programs and services provided by United Way directly linking people to assistance, volunteer opportunities, labor relations and planning.
Combined Federal Campaign (10%)
Federal employees request to direct their gifts to specific nonprofit agencies through their workplace fundraising campaign.

Honoring donors' requests to direct their gifts to one more of our Community Impact areas.

United Way 2-1-1 (1%)
An easy-to-remember central phone number connecting people to available community resources and volunteer opportunities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Community Change Strategies (1%)
Programs and partnerships that respond to emerging community needs and allow United Way to leverage funds to magnify the effect of local donations.
Your gift to United Way's Community Care Fund is multiplied by leveraging it with matching grants and gifts-in-kind, so it has the greatest impact.
